It is mainly used for newborn umbilical cord care to help prevent cord infections (omphalitis) and reduce the risk of neonatal sepsis. It may also be used for minor cuts, wounds, burns, and skin disinfection. <span class="" data-state="closed"></span></p><p data-start="390" data-end="625">The gel works by killing or stopping the growth of bacteria on the skin and umbilical cord stump. It is usually applied once daily for up to 7 days after birth, keeping the cord area clean and dry. <span class="" data-state="closed"></span></p><p> </p><p data-start="627" data-end="848">Common side effects may include mild skin irritation, redness, or rash at the application site. It is for external use only and should not be swallowed or applied to the eyes or ears.</p>
