It became the first drug to be labeled as a nootropic – which is a drug used to enhance memory, learning, and other cognitive functions. Piracetam was also found by serendipity to be an effective anticonvulsant in the 1980s.</p><p style="box-sizing: inherit; margin: 12px 0px 20px; padding: 0px; color: rgb(32, 34, 39); font-family: system-ui, sans-serif; font-size: 17px;">Piracetam is not approved by the FDA for any medical or dietary use. In the UK, where it is available on prescription, it is mainly used for myoclonus.
